Levy: Sacking Postecoglou was "emotionally difficult"

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has described the decision to dismiss manager Ange Postecoglou as "emotionally difficult," despite the Australian coach leading the club to Europa League glory just weeks earlier.
The surprising dismissal came only 16 days after Postecoglou guided Spurs to a historic 1-0 victory over Manchester United in Bilbao, securing the club's first major trophy in 17 years.
Key factors in the decision:
- Disappointing Premier League campaign finishing 17th
- Need for improved domestic performance
- Desire for consistency across all competitions
"While I don't regret appointing Ange and am grateful for his contributions, including our fifth-place finish last season and this year's trophy, we felt a change was necessary to compete at the highest level," Levy explained in an exclusive club interview.
The chairman, who has overseen Tottenham for over 25 years, emphasized the difficult nature of the decision: "Emotionally it was challenging, but we believe this is the right move for Tottenham's future."
New Era Under Thomas Frank
Former Brentford manager Thomas Frank has been appointed as Postecoglou's replacement, signing a long-term contract through 2028.
Why Frank was chosen:
- Outstanding track record developing young players
- Strong tactical knowledge and communication skills
- Alignment with Tottenham's long-term vision
New CEO Vinai Venkatesham detailed the rigorous selection process: "We analyzed over 30 candidates against 10 key characteristics essential for success at Tottenham. Thomas emerged as our clear first choice."
Levy praised Frank's qualifications: "His intelligence, communication skills, and technical expertise stood out during our discussions. We're excited about this fresh start and building on last season's trophy success."
The Danish manager brings seven years of Premier League experience from Brentford, where he established himself as one of England's most respected coaches.
